The Swedish Museum of Natural History is Sweden’s national museum of natural history, housed in a listed Art Nouveau complex designed by Axel Anderberg and open to the public since 1916. It is an easy trip by metro from central Stockholm.
Alongside the exhibitions is Cosmonova, Sweden’s largest dome cinema, now with IMAX laser, showing films about nature, space and the deep sea; its price and whether museum admission covers it are not given, so ask when you buy tickets. Photography and filming for private use are allowed in most exhibitions.
The trade-off is the door: the museum caps the number of visitors in its public areas for fire and safety reasons, and at busy times you may have to wait to get in. Buying tickets ahead is encouraged. When the children need a break, Bistro Naturhistoriska serves meals and fika with a focus on sustainability.
