Rider switch lets two adults take turns on a ride while one waits with a child, without queuing twice. Most big parks have a version, under names such as parent swap, child swap and baby switch. This guide explains how it works at each park, from the parks' own pages.

Last checked: November 2026, against each park’s own information pages. Schemes and ride lists change, so check with the park on the day.
You have a child who is too small for a ride, and two adults who would like to go on it. Rider switch solves that. One adult rides while the other waits with the child, then they swap without the second adult having to join the back of the queue. Nearly every big park has a version, under different names and with different steps. This guide explains what each park calls it, how it works and where the catches are.
Quick answer
- What it is: a way for adults to take turns on a ride while one looks after a child, without queuing twice.
- Who it’s for: mostly families with a child under the height limit, or a child who doesn’t want to ride.
- Where to ask: usually the attraction entrance. At Alton Towers and Chessington you collect a pass from a set location first.
- What varies: whether a pass is needed, how many people can use the second turn, and which rides are covered.

Disneyland Paris
Disneyland Paris describes Rider Switch as a free service. The first parent queues while the second waits outside with the children. At the exit, the first parent collects the Rider Switch pass and hands it to the second parent, who goes on without queuing again. See our Disneyland Paris height requirements for which rides are likely to need it.
Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort
Walt Disney World’s Rider Switch page sets out these steps:
- Tell a Cast Member at the attraction entrance, with your whole group present.
- Split into Party A, who queue and ride first, and Party B, who wait outside the queue. A maximum of two people from Party B can ride next.
- A Cast Member scans the admission media or tickets of Party B and tells you where to return.
- After Party A rides, Party B goes to the return location, has their media scanned again and boards without waiting in the standard queue.
If Party B is only one person, one guest may ride again with them while Party A waits with those not riding. It’s available at most attractions, and the resort publishes a full list. Disneyland Resort’s page describes the same idea: an adult waits with a child unable to ride, then boards without waiting in line again.
Universal Orlando
Universal calls this Child Swap. Its guide to visiting with a baby explains that your party waits in the queue together, and near boarding a Team Member directs one member to a designated Child Swap area with the baby. Once the rest of the group is off the ride, you swap places. The resort’s sensory guide says most rides and attractions have a family room for this, so check the ride you have in mind.
Legoland Windsor
Legoland Windsor’s parent swap is for parents and guardians with more than one child. A parent rides with one child while the other waits, then they swap over without queuing twice. It isn’t available on all rides, so ask the Attractions team at each one. Windsor’s limits are in our Legoland rides by height chart.
Alton Towers
Parent Q Share is the most structured of the schemes here. It’s a free pass for families with children under 12 who don’t wish to ride or don’t meet the rider requirements. Passes are limited, issued first come, first served and can’t be pre-booked.
- Collect the pass and two wristbands on the day from Admissions, the Resort Box Office or Guest Services.
- The first wristband wearer uses the main queue, tells staff you hold the pass and gets it stamped. They may ride with others in your party.
- They hand the pass to the second wristband wearer, who enters the Fastrack queue line as a single rider and gets the pass stamped a second time.
The park lists it on The Curse at Alton Manor, Congo River Rapids, Wicker Man, Nemesis Reborn, Rita and Hex. Galactica, Oblivion, Spinball Whizzer, Th13teen, The Smiler and Toxicator aren’t included, because those rides have their own single rider option. It isn’t available in CBeebies Land.
Chessington World of Adventures
Chessington’s help pages say to collect a Parent Swap Pass from Guest Help & Information. One adult queues for the ride with the pass, then the other takes their turn.
Efteling
At Efteling, one parent queues and the other waits with the baby at the exit. The first parent asks the staff member at the exit for a Baby Switch ticket after riding and takes over the baby. The waiting parent then enters through the exit, and only one person can use the ticket. At Danse Macabre, the waiting parent goes to the staff member at the entrance instead. The park lists the attractions covered, and we’ve reproduced them in our Efteling and Europa-Park height guide.
Europa-Park
Europa-Park says to speak together to a member of staff at the attraction with height restrictions. It says this option is only available at the bigger rollercoasters, and that the waiting parent can stay with the child, for example by a playground.
Other parks on our site
The parks’ own information, as recorded on our pages, shows the same idea elsewhere:
- Warner Bros. Movie World: one adult rides while the other waits with the child, then they swap without queuing again.
- La Ronde: one adult queues and rides while the other waits at the exit with the child, then they swap.
- Vulcania: adults can take turns on the dynamic attractions if a child is too small. Ask at reception on Level C. It isn’t available for Namazu.
- Shanghai Disneyland Park: parents can take turns using Rider Switch.
- Six Flags Magic Mountain: a parent swap point is listed among park services.
Tips before you use it
- Agree the order at the entrance. At Disney, the whole group needs to be present at the start.
- Look for the limit on your group size. At Walt Disney World, two people from the waiting party can ride next. At Efteling and Alton Towers, the second turn is for one person.
- Don’t assume it covers all rides. Windsor, Alton Towers, Efteling and Europa-Park all limit it.
- Be early for a limited pass. Alton Towers issues its passes first come, first served.
- Keep your phone handy. The waiting parent needs to know when the first ride is done, and Disney suggests making sure your party tells you when they have finished.

Final thoughts

Ask at the ride or collect the pass first, depending on the park, and check which rides are covered. The rules on who can take the second turn vary, so confirm them with staff before your group splits up.
