Tierpark Berlin is a zoo founded in 1954, spread over a large area in the east of the city. The day can be built around its fixed feeding events: the flight show at 13:30 brings eagles and eagle owls in low over visitors’ heads, with no entry once it has started, and the penguin talk at 14:30 is a commented feeding that is dropped in severe frost. On Wednesdays at 12:00 the goats help with feeding on a tour that starts from Bilbos Hoppelland, except in rain, storm or frost. Next to the Strandkieker restaurant there is a large water playground.
The trade-off sits in the ticket: online tickets are cheaper than the box office and come with an entry time slot, but booked day tickets cannot be cancelled or rebooked. For food there are restaurants such as Patagona, Terrassencafé Kakadu and the Bandipur-Bistro, plus small snack stands around the park selling ice cream, sausages and fries, though the stands open depending on the weather.
