Our editorial assessment — not user ratings.

The Fernsehturm rises 368 metres over Alexanderplatz and has been open to visitors since 1969. It was designed by Hermann Henselmann and Günter Franke for the GDR’s Deutsche Post and is protected today as part of a cultural heritage ensemble. A visit means riding up to the observation deck, where the Sphere Bar serves anyone with a ticket. The catch for a family day: every ticket is tied to a time slot and cannot be cancelled, only rebooked online, so the tower sets the rhythm of the day rather than fitting around it.

Family FAQ

What are the opening hours of Fernsehturm Berlin?

March to October 9:00-23:00; November to February 10:00-23:00.

Can you bring a stroller to Fernsehturm Berlin?

Strollers cannot go up the tower; leave them at the wardrobe, where storage is free.

Why kids will love it

Children are catered for at the top: the lunch bundle comes with pasta and a soft drink for kids, and the breakfast bundle includes cocoa or juice for them. The restaurant’s meals also cover gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian and vegan needs.

Tips & tricks

Book a timed-entry ticket online in advance; without one you can queue for over an hour at busy times, especially weekends and school holidays. The observation deck is at 203m and the (pricier) revolving restaurant one level above turns slowly, which some younger children find unsettling. Visit near sunset for the view without the midday haze.
