OUR FAMILY ASSESSMENT

Family Intelligence

Chingaza National Natural Park is a Colombian national park founded in 1977 and listed as a Ramsar site for its wetlands. It is a day trip from Bogotá rather than a city outing, and the park limits how many people may walk each trail per day, with the limits able to change with the weather.

The trails differ a lot. The short Suasie trail takes the most visitors, while the long Suasie trail in the Monterredondo sector and the Cuchillas de Siecha trail can only be walked with a community guide because of their difficulty and length.

The trade-off is supplies: no food or charcoal can be bought inside the park, so everything for the day has to come with you. The campsite has toilets and charcoal grills.

Why kids will love it

Trails through a protected Ramsar wetland landscape with a daily cap on walkers, and two longer routes that are only walked with a community guide.
