Six Flags Great America is built around its 17 roller coasters, but the family side of the park is more than an afterthought: there are three children’s themed areas, and the family ride list runs from bumper-style Krazy Kars and the spinning Krazy Kups to the Columbia Carousel and the interactive JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle for Metropolis. Restaurants cover everything from a quick snack to a sit-down meal, so a full day does not need to be planned around leaving for food.
The catch for parents is that many of the family rides set two height rules: one for riding alone and a lower one, or none at all, for riding with an adult. That opens more rides to younger children, but it also means one grown-up is often in the seat beside them rather than waiting at the exit with siblings.
The park also has a waterpark, Hurricane Harbor Chicago, which keeps its own schedule and is not open every day the main park is. Day tickets are sold by date online, with processing fees and taxes added on top of the listed price.
