The real planning question at Griffin MSI is how much to add to the basic ticket. General Admission covers most permanent exhibits and some temporary ones, but Giant Dome Theater films, special exhibitions, lab experiences and tours such as the Coal Mine tour and the U-505 On-Board Tour are all extra, so the cost of the day depends on which of those you pick. That is the trade-off: the entry ticket is the starting point, not the whole bill.
Some families pay less for the base ticket. City of Chicago residents get a discount on General Admission with proof of residency, and Illinois residents get free General Admission on select days of the year, though those free days do not include the Giant Dome Theater or special experiences. Families with an EBT or WIC card plus photo ID receive free General Admission for up to two adults and six children under 18.
With small children, your own stroller is allowed inside except in certain exhibits where signs say otherwise. Breastfeeding is welcome in any public area, with or without a cover. You can bring your own food, but only to the designated eating areas, where table seating is limited.
