NEMO Science Center is a science museum in Amsterdam, housed in a building designed by Renzo Piano. Its roof is a destination of its own: the rooftop square holds the Museumrestaurant and the Serrebar with a large terrace, and there is a second terrace with a kiosk by the butterfly garden. The roof itself can be visited free via the stairs on the east side, though that covers the roof only, not the museum. In the summer months the roof stays open later on Thursdays. The trade-off is flexibility: every ticket carries a start time, which spreads visitors across the day but means the day is planned around your slot rather than the other way round. If you have a choice, weekday afternoons are often calmer.
