The castle is only one part of a day at Egeskov. The ticket that includes it also covers the park, the play areas and the exhibitions, and the castle interior itself opens to visitors in the summer season only, so outside those months the day is spent outdoors and in the exhibitions. Legeskoven, the play forest, is the part the venue singles out as a hit with children.
Food is easy to sort out. Brasserie Rigborg and several kiosks sell lunch, but you are also welcome to bring your own and eat it at the tables and benches set out around the park; packed food cannot be eaten indoors. Two of the kiosks will heat bottles and baby food in a microwave. If you need to leave and come back the same day, ask ticket staff for an exit wristband before you go.
The thing to plan around is the pull wagons: they can be hired at the entrance shop for the day, but they may sell out on busy days, so a family relying on one for a small child should arrive early or bring their own.
