Prospect Park is an urban park in New York City. It was founded in 1867 to a design by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places as well as being a New York City Landmark. For families, it is several outings in one place. Prospect Park Zoo is home to nearly 400 animals from more than 100 species. At LeFrak Center at Lakeside, open roller skating sessions are for all ages and the centre also runs public ice skating. In warm-weather months, its Splash Pad is the largest water play area in the park.
The trade-off is the zoo, the one part of the park you can’t do on a whim: all zoo tickets must be bought in advance.
