The Louvre is a lot of museum for small legs, and it helps to know there is a base: the Studio, on the ground floor of the Richelieu wing, is an area designed with families in mind. Children can join a free 20-minute workshop there without booking, though the activities are in French only. Most of the museum’s toilets have a baby changing table, and free self-service lockers beneath the Pyramid and at the Porte des Lions take coats and bags off your hands. Eating and drinking are not allowed in the exhibition rooms, but there are restaurants, cafés and take-away counters in the palace and gardens, and you can grab a bite under the Pyramid. The thing to plan around is the ticket: it is valid only for the date and time you choose and cannot be changed or refunded, so the slot you book is the slot you keep.
