Champ de Mars is a public park of broad lawns and paths in the 7th arrondissement. For children the draw is in the corners: playgrounds with carousels, swings and sandpits, asphalt ball-game areas, table-tennis tables and pony rides. Some families have their children ride through the park on donkeys to reach the puppet theatre or the play areas.
The Guignol theatre has stood on the Champ-de-Mars since 1902 and is built in Napoleon III style. Its shows are scheduled only on Wednesdays, weekends, public holidays and during Paris-region school holidays, so a term-time weekday visit gets the playgrounds but not the puppets. A snack bar sells food to take away, and there are toilets in the park.
