Vianden Castle is open every day of the year apart from a few holidays, and you can simply turn up: no advance registration is needed. The visitor centre is a good place to start with children. A path leads through the centuries, and a film made with 3D laser scanning shows the castle’s different building phases on a giant screen, which gives the rooms that follow some context. For the rooms themselves, a smartphone audio guide is available in 11 languages, including English. The trade-off is for families travelling with a dog: dogs are not allowed inside, out of consideration for the historic rooms.
