Sforza Castle was founded in 1360 and is protected as Italian national heritage; Filarete is recorded among its architects, and its style is Renaissance. Today it holds the Castle museums, including the Ancient Egypt gallery, all on one ticket. Younger visitors can follow a map made for them, full of facts and activities for exploring the castle in a playful way. The Merlate Panoramiche battlement walk has its own ticket, separate from the museums, and goes up in groups accompanied by staff. There is a changing table in the accessible toilet in the passage between the Cortile delle Armi and the Cortile della Rocchetta; you ask for access over the intercom. The castle sits inside Milan’s limited traffic zone, and the area in front of the fountain is pedestrian. The one thing you won’t see: the Sala delle Asse, the room painted by Leonardo da Vinci, is closed to the public for restoration.
