Saqqara is a necropolis and archaeological site, and the area ticket gets you onto the site and into the Imhotep Museum. Inside the museum, children have to stay with an adult at all times, large bags and backpacks go to the cloakroom, and photos on a mobile phone are free. Children under six enter the museum free; that rule is stated for the museum, not for the wider site.
The trade-off is how the tickets stack up. The best-known monuments, the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the Serapeum and the Tomb of Mereruka, each carry their own ticket on top of the area ticket, so decide before you arrive whether a single inclusive ticket covers what your family actually wants to see, or whether one or two tombs are enough.
