The Museum of Natural Sciences of Belgium is a natural history museum that has been open to the public since 1846. It is easy to fold into a Brussels day without a car, and that is also its trade-off: the museum’s own car park is very small and kept as a priority for visitors with reduced mobility, parking in the surrounding area is limited, and the museum strongly recommends public transport.
Families bringing their own lunch can use the designated picnic areas, one indoors next to the Mineral Hall on the lower floor and one outside near the entrance; eating is limited to those spots.
The youngest children get in free, but only when accompanied by at least one paying adult, and on the first Wednesday of every month admission is free for everybody after 13:00. In both cases a free ticket still has to be taken through the online sales site, which works on quotas. The museum is closed on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and 1 May, and closes early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
