Feedings fill the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s schedule: a diver goes into the Kelp Forest with food in hand, the sea otters’ meal doubles as a training session, and the daily Open Sea feeding brings out sardines, tuna and hammerhead sharks. Visitors can also meet Makana, a Laysan albatross, up close. From November 7, 2026, Ocean in Motion / La Danza del Mar adds an expanded African penguin habitat, big-bellied seahorses and coral reefs.
Strollers and wagons are permitted throughout, except in the aviary, the mezzanine of the Sea Otters exhibit and the Auditorium. The aquarium aims to be fully accessible to wheelchairs and motorized scooters, and wheelchairs are lent free at the Information Center, first come, first served. There are no lockers for rent. Many guests arrive right at opening, so entry is often quicker later in the day, and a passenger drop-off and pick-up zone sits near the entrance.
Food is the pinch point: outside food and drink are not allowed beyond small snacks and food needed for medical reasons, and seating in the Aquarium Cafe is only for Cafe customers.
