Hochosterwitz Castle sits on a rock. You park on one of the two parking levels just below the castle, directly in front of the first gate, or in the car park at the foot of the rock. From there the way up leads through the gates, and a passenger lift is there for anyone who would rather not walk. Pushchairs can make the trip up, and there is a marked spot to leave them higher up the route.
The trade-off comes at the top. Even with the lift, the way into the upper castle (the Hochburg) is not step-free, and the ground around it is stony and uneven.
The ticket also covers the museum. Photography is generally not allowed in the museum and exhibition rooms; you need special permission from the castle administration to take photos there.
