Blizzard Beach opened in 1995 as one of Walt Disney World’s water parks. Younger children have a kid-sized, snow-castle fountain play area with scaled-down versions of the park’s more thrilling attractions. Lottawatta Lodge serves quick bites such as cheeseburgers and flatbread. Life jackets and towels are free to pick up, umbrellas and cabanas can be rented, and keyless lockers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.
No park reservation is needed at the moment, although that requirement is subject to change. If you already have Walt Disney World theme park tickets, the Water Park and Sports option adds water park admission to them.
The thing to plan around is the annual refurbishment. Each Disney water park closes once a year for maintenance, on a staggered schedule meant to keep at least one open, and a one-day water park ticket admits you to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, whichever is open. On some dates, that may mean Typhoon Lagoon rather than Blizzard Beach.
