There are two ways in: a Garden and Studio ticket, or one that adds the house. The house works on timed-entry tickets, sold from 10am on the day at the Visitor Centre on a first come, first served basis, so if the house matters to you, buy those first; the garden needs no timed ticket. For lunch you can use the picnic tables near the car park, spread a blanket on the slopes by the lakes, or eat in the café, which has high chairs and children’s lunch boxes. The one thing to plan around is the terrain: the walk from the car park to the house is a steep uphill path with shallow steps, and while buggy-friendly paths are marked on the Chartwell map, some parts of the woodland may be a challenge with a buggy. Without a car, Edenbridge and Oxted are the nearest stations, both reachable from London Victoria and London Bridge.
