Parc de la Ciutadella is an urban park in central Barcelona, founded in 1872 and protected as a Cultural Asset of National Interest and a historic garden. For families, the draw is how much there is to do in one place: several children’s play areas, Laludo, an environmental play space set up for families, and rowing boats on the lake that run every day. The kiosk-bar on Plaça de les Cascades covers both snacks and the public toilet, so it makes a natural base between the playgrounds and the water. The one thing to plan around is the boats: they are a paid extra, and from October to March they stop earlier in the evening than in summer, so a late-afternoon row works better in the warmer half of the year.
