Wakehurst, run as Kew Wakehurst, is a big outdoor site of gardens and woodland with natural play spaces worked into it, so the day is spent walking and stopping rather than queuing for anything. Many of the paths are accessible, though not all of them, and wheelchairs are available on site.
The catch for National Trust members is the car park. Entry to the gardens is free with your membership card, but members still pay to park, as a contribution to Kew’s plant science and conservation work, while paying day visitors park free; the charge itself is set by Kew Wakehurst. Without a car, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead are the nearest stations, both about 6 miles away, and bus 272 runs between Crawley and Brighton, though how close it stops to the entrance is not confirmed.
In the winter months, Glow Wild turns the gardens into a festive lantern trail; dates and prices for it are not yet confirmed.
