Tobu Zoo, open to the public since 1981, combines a zoo and an amusement park on one site in Miyashiro. Children aged two and under get in free, and buying e-tickets in advance means you skip the queue at the ticket window. The trade-off is that the rides are not part of admission: they need ride tickets or an Attraction Pass on top of the entry ticket, so budget for both if your children want rides as well as animals. If a shower comes in, the indoor rest area in front of Monkey World is a place to wait it out, though rides, animal exhibits and events can be cancelled or changed without notice because of weather, inspections or the animals’ health. There is a nursing centre next to the Cheese Windmill ferris wheel for scraped knees or a child who feels unwell, and lockers for bags.
