Opening hours
The zoo is open 9:30–17:00.
Closed days
Closed every Monday — or the following day when that Monday is a public holiday — and from 29 December to 1 January.
Booking
Advance booking is not required, but the zoo recommends buying a web ticket for Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, when it expects crowds.
Paying at the gate
Gate windows take credit cards, electronic money and QR payments, and if your balance falls short you cannot make up the difference in cash.
Pushchairs
Wheeled items such as skateboards are banned, with pushchairs and wheelchairs explicitly excepted, so you can bring a pushchair in.
Nursing rooms
One nursing room is inside FOOZOO in the zoo; the other is at Tenshiba Ina, which is outside the park.
Nappy changing
Changing sheets are available in some of the toilets, not in every one.
Toilets
Toilets are spread across several points, but there are none along the stretch from Penguin Park & Sea Lion Wharf to the Bird Paradise area.
OUR FAMILY ASSESSMENT

Family Intelligence

The zoo has two entrances, the Shinsekai Gate and the Tenshiba Gate, and which one you pick shapes the day. From the stations the walk in stretches to ten or fifteen minutes if you take the route with the elevators, which is the one to use with a pushchair. Wheelchairs are lent at both gates on a first-come basis and cannot be reserved ahead, so an early arrival matters if you need one.

Nursing is where the layout works against you: the second nursing room sits outside the gates, at Tenshiba Ina, so using it means leaving and coming back — and re-entry only counts if you tell the gate window before you walk out.

Pets stay at home, with assistance dogs the exception. Cars are not allowed to stop in front of the zoo to let passengers out either; that is road traffic law rather than a house rule, so plan the last stretch on foot whether you arrive by taxi or by car.

Why kids will love it

For a child the draw is the walk itself: named areas such as Penguin Park and Sea Lion Wharf, and the paths that run up to Bird Paradise. A cooling shelter under the deck, parasols and mist sprays give a small child somewhere to stop without leaving the zoo, and the shops inside cover snacks. Children old enough to carry a phone can take pictures from the park paths — flash, strobes and reflector boards aimed at the animals are the one thing that is never allowed.
