Sydney Zoo opened in 2019 in the city’s western suburbs. The grounds are flat with wide pathways and no stairs anywhere, and prams and strollers are allowed; strollers can also be hired at the information desk, subject to availability and with photo ID.
The zoo limits numbers per day and per arrival session. You can still buy tickets at the gate, but only as long as the day hasn’t reached capacity, and on busy days, event days and school holidays entry may be limited. That is the one real gamble: turning up unbooked in the holidays can mean not getting in.
If you need to step out, ask for a re-entry pass-out at the entrance or the zoo shop before you leave, and you can come back the same day. The menus at the cafés and kiosks include gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian options. For children who find noise hard, noise-cancelling headphones can be borrowed against a refundable deposit, and the zoo is a member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme.
