Stirling Castle is a scheduled monument, and inside its walls is the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders’ Regimental Museum, which closes a little earlier than the rest of the castle, so it makes sense to see it first. Getting there is the part to plan: the castle is an uphill walk from Stirling’s train and bus station, and the esplanade car park is closed to all vehicles except coaches and accessible parking, with Castleview Park and Ride as the alternative, though its shuttle buses can get busy at peak times. Arriving car-free pays off: book online with the code GOOD25 and show your bus or train ticket or bike on arrival for a discount on standard admission. Once inside, there is a cafe, self-service tea and coffee, and a picnic area, and a limited number of children’s ear defenders are available.
