Phaeno opened in 2005 in a building designed by Zaha Hadid, right in the center of Wolfsburg. The exhibition is laid out so that every area of the main level can be reached with a stroller or wheelchair over ramps, which means younger siblings can come along in the buggy while older kids move from one experiment to the next. The orientation plan lists a dedicated children’s area among the exhibition zones, alongside sections such as Mathemagie, Bits & Bytes and SpürSinn. Charlys Bistro serves warm and cold food, and packed lunches are welcome, though only in the picnic area, not in the exhibition itself. Arriving late in the day pays off: day tickets are half price in the last stretch before closing.
