Naracoorte Caves National Park is a national park of show caves, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The day is built from pieces you can mix. Stick-Tomato Cave is an easy self-guided walk into two well-lit chambers, and Alexandra Cave is a short, easy guided tour pitched at families with small children. Between caves, the Wonambi Fossil Centre has life-sized models of extinct mammals, and the free Fossil Hunters Playground adds swings, rope climbing and sand to dig through for fossils.
Lunch is easy to sort: the Caves Café serves a seasonal menu, and there are picnic tables in the main visitor precinct if you bring your own. The Roof Top Loop Walk has no steps or stairways, and the fossil centre, café, picnic tables and playground paths are wheelchair accessible.
The trade-off is the pram. The Roof Top Loop Walk takes one, but Stick-Tomato Cave begins with steps down and Victoria Fossil Cave has more of them, so expect to carry a toddler underground.
