The permanent displays and collection-based thematic exhibitions at Nanjing Museum are free, but only with a real-name reservation made in advance; market-run temporary exhibitions and performances fall outside the free entry. Booking runs through the museum’s official WeChat mini program, and children can’t be booked on their own: an adult books a parent-child ticket, and adult and children are checked in together. Visitors on foreign passports book themselves, then on the day complete formalities at the green-channel window in the Service Center, bringing the original passport and the booking confirmation. You choose a morning or an afternoon slot. The trade-off: once you leave, you can’t go back in the same day, so everything you need for the visit has to fit inside one stretch. Large luggage goes into storage to the right of the main entrance before the ticket check.
