Mountain Zebra National Park, founded in 1937, is a SANParks national park within day-trip reach of Cradock. Entry is a daily conservation fee, with a lower rate for children and different rates for South African, SADC and international visitors. Guided game drives run in the morning, during the day, in the evening and at sunset, and the sunset drive includes snacks and drinks. The rest camp has a licensed restaurant and a shop, so food is covered whether you stay the night or just come for the day. The trade-off is that not every activity takes young children: game drives have a minimum age, and the walk to the San cave paintings involves clambering over rocks and is open only to older children and adults. Plan your exit time too, since leaving after the gate closes costs extra and has to be arranged with reception in advance.
