Mount William is a park for spotting wildlife: kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and echidnas all live here. Two walks suit families. The wukalina/Mount William walk follows a well-defined track shaded by black gums, banksias and she-oaks. Cobler Rocks is a gentle return walk that starts on flat fire trails and ends on the beach, and forester kangaroos are commonly seen along the way.
For a picnic, the day use area next to the Stumpys 4 campground has a shelter, picnic tables and gas barbecues.
The trade-off is that you have to bring everything with you. There is nothing to buy in the park, the campsites have no drinking water, and the last stretch from Gladstone, the nearest town for groceries, fuel and meals, is on unsealed roads. Pack water, food and a full tank before you turn off.
