The summit track on Wollumbin (Mount Warning) is closed until further notice, so a family visit today happens at the base of the shield volcano rather than on top of it. The Lyrebird track is the walk to take: an easy, short route through palm forest to a viewing platform. Afterwards, the national park itself suggests staying at Breakfast Creek, where the toilets are, or moving on to the Korrumbyn Creek picnic area for lunch. The trade-off is the road in. Parking at both creeks is limited, and Mount Warning Road can flood quickly, even in a local storm, so a wet forecast can end the day before it starts.
