OUR FAMILY ASSESSMENT

Family Intelligence

Hot Springs National Park was founded in 1921 around the thermal springs that feed Bathhouse Row. The water comes out of the ground at 143°F, and by the time it reaches the pools it has cooled enough to touch. The Fordyce Bathhouse is the park’s visitor center, and Junior Ranger activity booklets are available there on request; ranger programs, including the 20-30 minute Junior Ranger activity for the whole family, run seasonally from May to October, pending weather and staff availability.

Bathing is where the trade-off lies. The Buckstaff and Quapaw bathhouses on the Row are concessions with their own rates, reservations are recommended at each, and both set minimum ages that leave younger children out of the baths.

For a longer day, the park suggests a picnic at one of its established picnic areas.
