High Chaparral is a Wild West theme park outside Värnamo in Sweden, founded in 1966. Much of what the ticket covers is hands-on: the Natchez paddle steamer, archery, rafts, a hayloft to jump from and Trapper’s Challenge on Buffalo Island, while the youngest have Buffalo City, a miniature town of their own.
The trade-off is that several activities are paid separately on top of admission: the train ride to Old Mexico, gold panning, the Wheel of Fortune, Buffalo Bills Rodeo and Big River Adventure Golf. The train is charged per person and per trip, so a family that rides out and back pays twice.
The restaurants range from classic dishes to Wild West specialities, and the park lists a picnic of buns, sandwiches and a thermos among its ways to eat, though no formal outside-food rule is set out. Wheelchair users can get around practically everywhere in the park, though not necessarily every area; the train to Old Mexico has a ramp but only a limited number of wheelchair spaces, and the wheelchairs lent out at the main entrance are few, so the park recommends booking one before the visit.
