Glamis Castle was founded in 1372 and is a Category A listed castle and country house, now run as a historic house museum. The castle itself is seen on a guided tour. A ticket is general admission rather than a booking for a set time: you check in at the Head of Stairs and join the next tour.
The trade-off is height. The tours involve several staircases and there is no lift to the upper floors, but the entire ground floor is step-free, including the Coach House, which holds the current exhibition and a video tour of the castle. Outside, both the Italian Garden and the Kitchen Garden can be visited with a buggy, though some other garden routes have rougher paths.
The Castle Kitchen Restaurant serves drinks, lunches and afternoon teas, and the Old Larder sells hot and cold drinks to take away plus snacks; a Gardens & Grounds ticket is all you need to reach either. Afternoon tea needs at least 24 hours’ notice.
