Dorrigo National Park is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and lies next to the town of Dorrigo. The Walk with the Birds boardwalk winds through the trees, and you can look out along it for some of the 150 bird species recorded in the park. It is also the one route the park describes as wheelchair accessible. Beyond the boardwalk, the walking tracks are mostly suited to experienced bushwalkers.
The ranger-led tours run on set dates and must be booked, and the junior ranger sessions fall in the school holidays. The tours go ahead in all weather. The park’s own view is that the rainforest is the place to be in the rain, so come prepared. Parents do not have to stay for the junior ranger sessions, and younger siblings below the age range can join if a parent or carer comes along. On the guided tours, families or groups of four or more get a 10% discount, subject to terms.
The Glade picnic area has toilets, free barbecues, and both covered and open-air picnic tables. The Dorrigo Rainforest Centre keeps shorter hours from June to August than in the rest of the year and closes on Christmas Day.
