Banff is a park you move through rather than a single site you arrive at, and that shapes the day more than anything else. Its two best-known lakes, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, cannot be improvised: both run on reservations and on scheduled buses, so they belong in the plan before you leave home rather than in the time left over.
