OUR FAMILY ASSESSMENT

Family Intelligence

The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is a butterfly house in Kuranda, founded in 1987. A guided tour is part of admission, so you are not left to work out the aviary on your own, and the sanctuary stays open in the rain. If you need to step out and come back later, you can ask for a re-entry pass that is valid for the same day. The one thing to plan around is the aviary route itself: visitors using manual wheelchairs may need real strength or a companion’s help to get round all of it, and the sanctuary asks guests with larger or heavy-duty wheelchairs and scooters to contact it before they come.

Why kids will love it

Children get a guided walk among butterflies rather than just a look through glass, and a wet day in Kuranda doesn’t wreck the plan. For a child with limited vision, the sanctuary offers guided tours tailored to their needs.
