AquaRio is a public aquarium in Rio de Janeiro, founded in 2016. The whole visit is indoors and under one roof, which makes it a dependable fallback when the weather turns. The main lobby doubles as a food court, and there are two more food stops along the circuit, so you don’t have to plan meals around the exhibits. Cameras are welcome, but flash is not, so switch it off on children’s phones and cameras before you go in. The easiest way there without a car is the metro to Carioca, then VLT Line 1 towards Terminal Gentileza to the Utopia AquaRio stop. Taxis and ride-hailing cars have a drop-off point at the door. One thing to know before you buy tickets: the child ticket and the half-price categories are reserved for Brazilian citizens and foreign residents of Brazil with ID, so visiting families from abroad should not count on those rates.
