La Campana is a national park founded in 1967, entered through separate sectors rather than one main gate: Granizo and Cajón Grande on the Olmué side, Palmas de Ocoa on the Hijuelas side. Granizo is the way up to the summit of Cerro La Campana, and the El Andinista stretch from the Mina section to the top shuts in winter. Pack food that needs no cooking – fires and camping stoves are not allowed, so the picnic sites are for cold meals. The trade-off is access: none of the trails are built for universal access, so this is a day on foot.
