The walk to the glacier viewpoint is a climb on steps the whole way, and there is no seating at the lookout itself, only a bench along the track. If steps won’t work for someone in your group, the Tasman Lake and River Track is the suggested alternative. The car park is the place to regroup: it has picnic tables and a day shelter with seating. Nothing is sold at the track and there is no drinking water, so pack food and water before leaving Aoraki / Mount Cook Village, where food options are limited too. This is alpine country, and snow, freezing temperatures, strong winds and sunburn are all possible whatever the season, so bring layers and sun protection.
