The Green Zoo dates from 1881. The main playground, Wupperdüne, has a climbing frame, a slide and a giant sandpit, and lies below the elephant enclosure; the Okavango restaurant, open all year, is by the elephants too. In Tigertal there is a water playground next to a kiosk, but the trade-off is that its water is switched off in the winter months. Public feedings of Humboldt penguins, king penguins and pink pelicans are scheduled through the day, though times can change or be cancelled for operational reasons, and the sea lions currently have no public feeding. Dogs are not allowed in the zoo.
