Taipei Zoo was founded in 1914 and is laid out in themed areas, among them the Formosan Area, the Children’s Zoo, the Insectarium, the koalas and the Giant Panda House. A shuttle train and the Education Center are paid separately at small extra fees, and a hand stamp at the exit lets you leave and come back in on the same ticket, which helps on a long day with small children. One thing to know before you budget: the reduced child rate for ages 6-11 is listed under the rules for Taiwanese citizens and Alien Resident Certificate holders, and the zoo does not say that visiting children from abroad get it, so tourist families should be prepared to pay the general rate for school-age children. Children up to 5 enter free either way.
