Barmah National Park, founded in 2010, is a day trip from Echuca. Most family walks start at the Dharnya car park. The Yamyabuc Discovery Trail is the short one, leading through the natural and cultural features of the Barmah forest, and the Dharnya Centre runs guided walks along it as well as cultural exhibitions. The Lakes Loop Track is a longer circuit past Aboriginal oven mounds, once used for cooking, and Barmah Lake; you can also join it at the Barmah Lakes campground, the day visitor area or Rices Bridge. Toilets are at Barmah Lakes and Ulupna Beach. The one thing to plan around is the family dog: dogs, cats and other pets are not permitted anywhere in the park.
