OUR FAMILY ASSESSMENT

Family Intelligence

The weekend is when the National Art Museum of Azerbaijan does the most for families. Its History of Art for Children programme fills a dedicated children’s zone with lectures, short excursions, master classes, quizzes and quest games, aimed at both preschool and school-age children and held in English, Azerbaijani and Russian. Places need registering in advance. The museum’s children’s section, ANMA Children’s Museum, adds holiday programmes, interactive tours, art therapy, inclusive master classes for children with special needs, and cartoon and film screenings. Weekend film sessions in the museum’s movie room end with a short discussion and cost nothing to attend. The trade-off is the house rules: no food and no drinks of any kind, bottled or in a thermos, and large bags, umbrellas and coats stay out of the halls, so snacks and the water bottle have to wait until you are back outside.

Why kids will love it

Few art museums build a programme around preschoolers, and this one does it every weekend, in English, with games and quests rather than just looking. The inclusive master classes also make room for children with special needs.
