OUR FAMILY ASSESSMENT

Family Intelligence

The Pichi Richi Railway is a heritage railway on a line that first opened in 1878; the preservation society that runs it was founded in 1973. Trains leave from Quorn, and the Pichi Richi Explorer offers a morning or an afternoon run, so you can fit the ride around a meal or a rest rather than giving the whole day to it. Along the way there is a stop at Woolshed Flat, where light refreshments are on sale.

The trade-off is the calendar: this is not a railway you can simply turn up to. Trains run only on selected dates between March and November, and the exact days vary, so the visit has to be planned around the timetable, not the other way round.

Why kids will love it

Children get a real heritage train ride out of Quorn with a refreshment stop at Woolshed Flat, and a family ticket covers two adults and two children in one fare.
