Archeon, founded in 1994, is both an archaeological museum and a theme park. Rather than looking at objects behind glass, children try things themselves across three periods: prehistory, Roman times and the Middle Ages, and they leave with souvenirs they made. Every ticket comes with an activity card. Weekends and school holidays bring an extra programme, though what it includes is not spelled out in advance. The park also runs bookable brunches through the year, including a Sunday brunch and seasonal Easter and Christmas brunches, and these include entry. The catch for Dutch museum-card holders: the card gets you in on ordinary days, but not on the big event days such as the Christmas market, the light festival and the midsummer and midwinter fairs, when everyone needs a ticket.
