Belair National Park works as a full day out because one vehicle entry opens most of it: walking trails, picnic grounds, day visitor areas and the adventure playground. Tennis courts and other facilities are booked separately. The ovals make a natural base, with shelters, barbecues and toilets close by, and a swimming pool joins the playground as the kids’ main draw, though the pool opens in summer only. On at least one of the trails, an off-road stroller is suitable in dry conditions. Old Government House opens for guided tours only on selected Sundays and public holidays, so match your date to it if the house is part of the plan. The park closes on days of Catastrophic Fire Danger and may also close on days of Extreme Fire Danger. The one catch is food: the kiosk at the adventure playground opens only on weekends, public holidays and school holidays, so on an ordinary weekday the picnic basket is lunch.
