The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is one of the oldest zoos in the United States, and it was built on a hill. A Courtesy Cart can be requested through Public Safety or at the Guest Services Podium across from Mai Thai’s Marketplace, but it is not a constantly running shuttle: it follows a set route and takes one mobility device at a time.
The Safari Train, the Conservation Carousel, the Giraffe Feeding Experience and the Roo Valley Walkabout are the zoo’s rides and experiences. Food trucks serve chicken strips, tacos and burgers, alongside snack stations and Hops, which overlooks Roo Valley. Strollers can be rented at the Welcome Center on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limited number reservable online at least 24 hours ahead. Re-entry is allowed on the day of purchase if you get a stamp at the turnstiles.
For sensory needs, the Welcome Center lends sensory bags with noise-canceling headphones, fidgets and sunglasses, there are two calming rooms, and sensory-friendly restrooms have manual-flush toilets and paper towels instead of hand dryers. Families with a valid SNAP/EBT card and matching photo ID get reduced Access for All admission and parking, up to 10 admission tickets per visit.
Metro routes 1, 46, 38x and 78 run to the zoo, and Red Bike is another option. Jack O’Lantern Glow, a ticketed family event, runs October 2–31, 2026 (closed October 5, 12 and 19), and the PNC Festival of Lights runs November 19, 2026 to January 3, 2027.
