The Grand Palace was founded in 1782, commissioned by Phutthayotfa Chulalok, and its buildings mix Thai and Western architecture. It is both a royal palace and a place of worship, and the same compound holds Wat Phra Kaew and the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textile – both included in the ticket for foreign visitors, so there is no second ticket to buy once you are inside.
Audio guides can be rented in several languages, but only on showing a passport or a credit card. Drinks and snacks are sold at the Doi Kham shop inside the grounds.
If you come by car, there are several car parks around the palace, including at Wat Mahathat, beside the City Pillar Shrine and on Soi Wat Pho.
